This would set in place one of the biggest strengths of his career. The collaboration with Yelawolf started a network with other artists who wanted him to be on their albums as well. In 2009, he received a random phone call from artist Yelawolf asking him to make a guest appearance on his new album, Trunk Muzik. He believed his rap career was over and was about to give up on music. With his career in financial turmoil, he was left homeless and only a few friends would allow him to stay with them.

Upon winning the contest, he felt his career was taking off and would create the financial support he needed. In 2003, Rittz won the Battlegrounds Rap Competition at the local radio station, 107.9. After a while, the two had their differences and Rittz began doing solo work. The rap duo created music together for five years, but things never became professional. His 2014 sophomore LP, Next to Nothing, featured a couple guest shots from Mike Posner, plus appearances by Yelawolf, Twista, and B.o.B. Strange Music signed the rapper late that year, and released Rittz's studio debut, The Life and Times of Jonny Valiant, in 2013. More collaborations followed, and so did two mixtapes, 2011's White Jesus and 2012's White Jesus: Revival. Soured by the experience and on the verge of giving up rap entirely, Rittz was recruited by Yelawolf to guest on "Box Chevy" from the 2010 album Trunk Musik 0-60. With a speedy, sharp tongue and dexterous rhymes, Rittz had a few close calls in the music industry, winning a battle contest on Hot 107.9 and nearly following in the career path of Eminem, but unfortunately he was unable to lock down a record label signing due to disputes in management and contract deals.
